Takeshi Kawashima

Kawashima, a painter, sculptor, and print-maker, moved to New York City in 1963, and his practice blends Japanese culture with the Color Field movement.
His artworks often feature series of pictographs within grid-like structures, inspired by Japanese coats of arms.
The use of bold contrasts and pared-down aesthetics creates a symbolic effect, distilling visual language into layers of abstraction.
